Reduce, Reuse, Reclaim:
Our Eco-Friendly Studio Practices
At ClayWest Studio, we are committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainable pottery practices. Our studio operates with eco-conscious initiatives to minimize our environmental footprint while ensuring a responsible and mindful creative space.
♻️ Clay Recycling & Waste Reduction
We reclaim and recycle all unused clay, ensuring minimal waste.
A clay trap is installed in our sinks to prevent harmful materials from entering the drainage system.
Leftover clay from trimming and failed pieces is collected, rehydrated, and reused in future projects.
🔥 Energy-Efficient Firing & Glazing
We maximize kiln loads to reduce energy consumption per firing.
Encouraging group firings to save electricity and resources while keeping costs low.
Using low-impact glazes and promoting shared glaze sessions to minimize waste.
🌱 Eco-Friendly Glazing Practices
We encourage efficient glaze application to reduce excess waste.
Students are guided on how to save materials by using appropriate glazing techniques.
Reclaimed glaze materials are filtered and reused when possible.
🌡️ Heat & Energy Conservation
The studio maintains optimal energy efficiency by using heat from kilns to warm the workspace in cooler months.
We limit unnecessary power usage by running kilns only when fully loaded.
🧩 Bisqued & Broken Piece Repurposing
Bisque-fired and broken pieces are repurposed for mosaic projects, texture tools, frames or crushed for grog in clay bodies.
Unusable ceramic scraps are safely disposed of to avoid landfill pollution.
Drainage for plants, place broken cermic shards at the bottom of plant pots to impove drainage.
Kiln furniture, use the broken shelves for separation in kiln firings.
By practicing sustainability in our studio, we aim to inspire a mindful approach to pottery that respects both creativity and the environment.
🌍 Join us in making pottery more sustainable.
